Introducing .NET in Your Organization

While the developers at KMA have been working with .NET for months, we continue to meet IT managers who don’t understand enough about .NET to appreciate what it can do for them. This presentation, given by David Goldstein at the Babson College Center for Information Management Studies (www.babson.edu/CIMS), explains .NET to IT managers. Specifically, it addresses the following questions:

• What is the .NET framework? (This framework is the component of .NET that will have the biggest impact on IT organizations.)

• How does the .NET framework relate to other things that Microsoft calls .NET (e.g., .NET servers, clients and services)?

• What are the key benefits for using the .NET framework for application development?

• What are the relative benefits of the two new .NET languages (VB.NET and C#)?

• What do all those new acronyms mean (e.g., ADO.NET, ASP. NET)?

• How does .NET relate to web services?

• How should I get started with .NET?

As an example, the context of this message rang true with an IT manager at one of our clients. This presentation was given to that IT group. It was very well received and that manager felt that it spurred good discussion and laid the basis for proper momentum for .NET development in that environment.

Feel free to use this presentation. If you’re interested, we would be happy to come to your company and give the presentation to your IT group.
